District 7620 Hurricane Katrina Relief
October 27, 2005

District 7620 Hurricane Katrina Relief Chairperson, Barry Thompson (North Bethesda) transfers school supplies 27 October 2005 to Dr. Tim Havard (center), Assistant Super-intendent for Administration, Biloxi (MS) City Schools, and Paul Mallory, President, Biloxi Rotary Club. Almost $12,000 of supplies were procured by means of individual and club donations (Bel Air, Carroll Creek, Fredericktowne, Glen Burnie, Greenbelt, Hunt Valley, Mt. Airy, St. Mary's - Leonardtown, and Towsontowne), a District Simplified Grant to match a donation of $2000 by North Bethesda, and a generous gift ($5000) from Staples Office Supply. The supplies replaced essential items lost by students (when their homes were damaged or destroyed by the August storm) and provided teachers with such supplies as construction and copy paper (that the immediate loss of revenue from Coast casinos made it impossible to obtain.) Some supplies were shared with other Coast public and parochial schools at which needs were more pressing. The school supply project is but one of the relief efforts in Mississippi and Louisiana sponsored by D7620 Rotarians.
