Rotary Summer Fellowship Opportunity in Norway

In celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the founding of Rotary
International, the Rotary Club of North Bethesda announces a Rotary
Summer Fellowship for the summer of 2005.
The Fellowship, which is co-sponsored by the Vestheim Rotary
Club in Oslo, Norway, and arranged in cooperation with the International
Summer School at The University of Oslo, covers all expenses for
travel to and from Norway, tuition, fees, housing and pocket money.
(Any expenses in connection with travel to other parts of Europe
would be the student’s own responsibility.)
The International Summer School, which lasts for about six weeks,
offers a wide choice of courses ranging from topics like Norwegian
history and literature to Norwegian society and government and
politics. The School also includes various enrichment components
and weekend excursions. It starts on June 25 and ends on August
5. Students are housed in a student residence located in a park-like
setting. During the time at the University of Oslo, the Rotary
Summer Fellowship is also hosted by the Vestheim Rotary Club.
With the approval of the student’s home institution, academic
credits earned in the Summer School program are transferable.
For information about the International Summer School, visit
www.uio.no/iss.
Please note that for the student to be selected by the Rotary
Club of North Bethesda the International Summer School has
extended the application deadline to March 30, 2005.
To be eligible for this Fellowship, a student must have completed
at least one year of college. The Club will be especially interested
in applicants from Montgomery County, Maryland, but will consider
students from the Washington Metropolitan area. Those interested
in being considered for the Fellowship should contact the Rotary
Club of North Bethesda at charlesboteler@aol.com.
Because of time constraints, the selection process will have
to be expedited this year. After contacting the North Bethesda
Rotary Club for a preliminary assessment of eligibility and suitability
and to obtain an application form, the interested student should
expect to submit to the Club before February 28, 2005 basic personal
information, up-to-date college transcripts, two academic letters
of recommendation, and a statement indicating why the student
would like to study in Norway. The student who is selected can
use these materials for the required separate application to the
International Summer School (deadline March 30, 2005). There is
a presumption that the student selected by the Club will be admitted
by the University of Oslo.
The Rotary Club of North Bethesda expects to award this fellowship
again in 2007.
