Summer Fellowship 2007 awarded "Eva" Jeanette Binda from Bethesda
Claes Ryn, International Committee, made an announcement regarding our Summer Fellowship exchange program 2007, which is co-sponsored by the Vestheim club in Oslo, Norway. The Fellowship Committee--Victoria Feldman, Ole Pedersen, Kevin Barry, and Claes--just selected the recipient of the award for this summer and were very pleased to be able to offer it to "Eva" Jeanette Binda. She is a student at Notre Dame University who is from North Bethesda. (The Committee particularly encouraged applications from Montgomery County). Eva graduated from the Academy of the Holy Cross in Kensington with a 3.9 grade point average. In her first year at Notre Dame she has already achieved a 3.6 grade point average. She has a number of other credits and comes highly recommended. In their interview with Eva the members of the selection committee were much impressed by her poise, maturity, and articulate manner. She struck them as a leader-in-the-making. She has also shown strong interest in studying in Norway. Eva has accepted the fellowship. She will visit our club before leaving for Oslo.
She is currently a freshman at the University of Notre Dame and plan on majoring in Accountancy. She is particularly interested in International Business Law and International Relations. Eva graduated from the Academy of the Holy Cross in Kensington, MD and she is residing in North Bethesda.
At Holy Cross, she was the Editor of the newspaper and President of the French Club and Honors Society. At Notre Dame, she is participating in Mock Trial, Investment Club, and the Senate Committee for Academic Affairs. Eva also works at the Institute for Latino Studies at Notre Dame where she manages the budget for the Program Coordinator.
Eva has won scholarships from the Asian Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund and the Notre Dame Club of Washington DC. She was also named a Hispanic Recognition Program Scholar and an AP scholar by College Board. She previously participated in a summer Intensive French study program in Nice.
Eva love traveling and look forward to studying abroad in Norway this summer! Her plan on studying International Politics and also taking a course on Norwegian Culture and Society.
